Cultural Arts Education

ACAI brings dynamic, interactive learning experiences into schools and universities, helping students engage with African history, music, and movement in meaningful ways.

Program (Kids – Ages 7–12)

Program Vision

Program Structure (Beginner → Intermediate)

Introduce children to traditional West African drumming, culture, discipline, and confidence through fun and structured lessons.

Level 1: Beginner (4–6 weeks)

  • How to hold and sit with the djembe
  • Basic sounds: Bass – Tone – Slap
  • Simple rhythms
  • Call & response
  • Listening skills

Goal: Play a full simple rhythm together

Level 2: Foundation (6–8 weeks)

  • Improve technique (clean sounds)
  • Learn 2–3 traditional rhythms
  • Timing & group playing
  • Introduction to African culture (stories, meaning of rhythms)

Goal: Play in a group with confidence

Level 3: Intermediate

  • Faster rhythms
  • Solo & breaks (signals)
  • Performance preparation
  • Stage confidence

Goal: Perform for family/community

Class Format (Best for Kids)

  • Warm-up (5–10 min)
  • Technique practice (10 min)
  • Rhythm learning (15–20 min)
  • Fun/play time (games, freestyle)

Kids Private Lessons

  • 30 min → $25
  • 45 min → $35–$40

Group Classes (Best option)

  • $15–$25 per child / session
  • 5–10 kids per class
  • 4-week program (1 class/week)
    $80 per child
  • First class: $10 trial
